Workout Day 2!

Done! That was intense.
P90X Plyometrics
Total Time = 64 Mins

This was a challenging cardio workout based on the principal of jumping. It incorporated lot’s of moves like squats, lunges, and even sports-like movements… all in interval style training. Great cardiovascular conditioning as well as leg strength.
I do NOT sweat like that at the gym! 2 days in and I am a fan so far. This is intense stuff but I love it!

Happy New Year friends! Have a safe and fun time tonight.
To your health in the new year!

Workout Day 1!

Ok so this was yesterday’s workout. But since I just got this blog off the ground, I will be posting 2 workouts today. And I plan to post my workouts everyday so that you can follow along and so that I stay accountable.

Day 1 – 12/30/11
P90X – Chest and Back
P90X – Ab Ripper X
Total time = 74 mins

This was a beast. I never knew I could get such a crazy pump from a workout at home with nothing but a mat and a chin-up bar. Bring on Day 2!

My NEW workout program!

Part of my new commitment to health and fitness is inspired by a new workout regime. I plan to continuously change up my routines so that working out is not… well… routine. 😉
I plan on incorporating all kinds of new workouts and adventures to keep things fresh and to continue to shock my muscles. I also plan to continue to adapt my workouts so that they are what is best for my body. What works for me may not work the same for you. We all have different goals along with different physical issues that may prevent us from doing certain types of exercises. Regardless, the focus must always remain in tact and positive. This isn’t something that is going to come easy. But why should it?!

So, with that, we are jump-starting our new workouts by doing the P90X program. Several of our friends gave us various gifts of fitness equipment for our wedding. And we so appreciate that. One of those gifts was the full P90X program. And it seamed like the perfect program at the perfect time to kick this off! I like how they have a website where you enter your info and track your workouts. It’s to help keep accountability… and that is one of the most important aspects in making big changes in your life. My profile can be viewed here: http://www.teambeachbody.com/justinsandler
You can read about my stories and see more of my ‘before’ and ‘progress’ photos. We did a fit test on 12/29/11 to asses where we are. I am still working on entering all of my goals and I also need to do a few more tests like a body fat test. So, when I have everything together I will share so that you can see where I was when this started. I will say this… the fit test was brutal! I am excited to see where it goes!

My ‘Before’ Photo

This photo was taken on 12/29/2011.  That is the day that I fully made my new commitment to health and a better overall lifestyle.  I feel like I am in good shape, but I am not in top shape.  Of course, over the last 2 months I got married, went on a Thanksgiving trip to Chicago (which had NO shortage of yummy foods), and a Xmas trip to Palm Springs (once again… NO shortage of yummy delights)… all while running two businesses, working on a TV show and a commercial, and rehearsing/performing with 2 bands.  So I give myself a little leeway.   However, that is really not acceptable.  There is no excuse to not eat right and take care of ourselves everyday.  Part of my new commitment to fitness also comes with a new commitment to a more structured and productive life.  I very much have an artist brain… which sometimes means I can get very distracted, be all over the place, or simply get on an inspired wave and stay up all night working or creating.  Not that it’s bad to be inspired, however, sometimes it can be counter productive to some of the more important tasks at hand.  I have always been a night owl, but the world doesn’t work on those hours.  So, part of this training will be to get on an earlier schedule and to be committed and accountable to that new schedule.  I look forward to being more inspired during daylight as well.  🙂

In 2011, Mary and I opened up a business and got married.  We studied, researched, and have grown an incredible amount.  We have both made some of the biggest realizations about ourselves and life in general.  And we are experiencing a transition to being better to ourselves and the world around us.  This ‘before’ photo marks the beginning of an entire new journey.  One that I am very blessed and excited to be on.  Stay tuned!

Welcome to my Health & Fitness Blog!

I started this blog for 2 reasons… inspiration and accountability.  Both of which I seek for myself as well as others.  I have made the commitment to live a cleaner and leaner lifestyle.  This is something that I am doing with Mary…. my wife, workout partner, teammate, business partner, and best friend.

There are not many greater gifts than that of inspiration.  People can move mountains with the right inspiration.  And so I am here to deliver a message of peace, love, health, and happiness.  I am here to share my journey and experiences, to educate, to learn, to grow, to keep myself as well as others accountable to live a healthier and more positive lifestyle, and to help us all reach our goals and beyond.

I have been into health and fitness since I was an early teen in high school. After spending the years from 6th – 8th grade as a chubby kid, I vowed to never to go back.  I feel that over the years I have consistently been in good shape. However, I feel that I have never reached the level of what I would consider to be ‘amazing’ shape.  I spent a lot of my early years trying to bulk up and get strong, but a lot of my heavy lifting mixed with not the greatest of form has worn on my body. I also play drums, so it is very important that I am able to continue playing without pain. Several years ago, I actually quit lifting weights altogether for the sake of being able to play drums and save my joints. But just doing only cardio for years was draining me. I missed the weights. I missed the feeling of the pump and that great endorphin rush that only a great lifting workout could give me. So I got back into it a few years ago.  I feel like I am in good condition now, but I also feel like I have plateaued. I want to be shredded! I want to be more flexible. And I want more endurance, stamina, and overall better cardiovascular health.  Those are my goals.  What are yours?

I have recently made changes in my life to commit to a higher level of health and fitness.  First, my wife and I have eliminated animal products from our diet.  This is something we have been researching and after watching some very eye opening documentaries, we decided that this would be the best for our health and lives.
Second, we have committed to a new, higher level of working out.  I have been a gym rat for a long time.  I love hitting it at the gym, but there are drawbacks.  It can be challenging to coordinate the space and equipment needed for an intense workout.  Plus the drive to & from the gym can take away productive time in a day.  Personally I also feel that my body is needing something different than I have been getting at the gym.  Not just to shock my muscles with something new, but to work out more properly for the overall health and longevity of my body.  So I am going to be incorporating all kinds of new workouts and adventures and I can’t wait to share them all.

I really have no idea where this blog will go… it could go in endless directions.  I’m just gonna share… everything from recipes to movie recommendations to my own daily workouts.  We’ll just see how this evolves.  Feel free to give your input, share your stories, etc.  Let’s make this an interactive place where we can achieve great things.

Here’s to our journey.

Peace & Love,
Justin Sandler
