It always feels good to do a nice stretch as the sun is setting. There is something very peaceful about it. As the day transitions into night, I absorb the energy into my body as I connect with my muscles, joints, tendons, and bones and allow them to do what they are supposed to do. I always feel invigorated after a good stretch and today is no exception. I have not been stretching as much over the last 2 weeks and I could feel that today. My body was tight, so I went with a more ease-in approach and went with the flow. I feel very loose right now and am reminded of the importance of getting more stretching and yoga work into my weekly routine. I hope you all had a fantastic day and wow, it’s already Friday again. It feels like summer is here… hot day today and a beautiful evening breeze blowing in from the windows now. Have a great night friends. And here’s a little love…

Yesterday was a long day and I decided to make it a rest day. I haven’t been getting the greatest of sleep lately, but I have been pushing myself through it. Furthermore, I think I slept weird on my left arm last night because I felt a little sting in it while I was working out today. I certainly wasn’t going to take another rest day, however, so I got to it.
Back and Biceps are a crazy workout when combined. I used to do them together all the time in the gym, but then learned to switch it up and do them on separate days because some of the same muscles are being used in both and therefore can fatigue before either body part is fully worked out. I get that in this program it has to work like this because we switch things up from week to week… which is a good thing. But today I was struggling a bit. My arm felt kind of weird during the pull-ups, so I did some, but I did more band work for my back today then pull-ups which worked well. Biceps were a little tough to get into, but when I focused and fought through it, they were ready to work. I put as much tension on the bands as possible and I burned them hard. I think I’m already using one of the heaviest bands. I may need to seek out a heavier one soon… or some heavier dumbbells. But this is a good problem to have. 🙂
I got to abs but varied them up today and finished up. I am now enjoying a delicious fruit and kale protein shake and getting ready to get back to the day. Lot’s to do and a business meeting in a few. I wish you all a beautiful and productive afternoon.
We spent some time relaxing today. For the first time since living in our building, we actually went down and laid out by the pool. The sun felt good today… got some much needed Vitamin D. Then it was time to get in my cardio workout. Plyometrics was on the calendar for today, but I chose to do Cardio X instead to switch it up a bit. Also, I missed yoga this week and didn’t have a great Kenpo workout, so this program was great because it incorporates yoga, kenpo, plyo, and core. It’s also a slightly shorter workout and that was welcomed today. I got good a sweat going and definitely burned some calories. Now it’s time to run off to band rehearsal with DropDead L.A. I think playing drums for 2 hours will be a nice finish to my fitness routine today. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend and are ready to hit it hard this week! P90X – Ab Ripper X
Total Time = 77 Minutes
If you’re playing at home, I blogged late last night after a workout that had to be cut short. My body was too spent and I couldn’t get through it. But this morning I came raring back and hit it hard! Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Abs! This is still one of the toughest workouts in the program. I pushed myself to failure every exercise. During some of those pushup moves, I went until I simply fell on my face. lol. I am still trying to keep up with the different speed and one-arm pushups. This workout always pumps me up and as usual, my upper body is like jello now. I fought hard to complete the entire Ab workout and finished strong. And I feel amazing right now. My body is totally worked out and I still have a beautiful Sunday ahead of me. Btw, while I was working out, my wife Mary snuck a photo of me. She also took a more artsy photo post-workout. So, I will share them here with you. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Today, Mary and I went on a little adventure and visited the North Hollywood Farmer’s Market for the first time. A friend of ours was performing live, so we thought to go check it out. They were great btw… they’re called Kiss the Salt… check them out, her voice is amazing. It was a nice little market, free parking and some good organic stands. We had a nice time getting some sun, hearing live music, sampling all kinds of delicious foods, and buying some good organic produce. It was nice supporting local farmers… I think we will make a habit of this. We ran a few errands after and then came home to make some food. I was planning on getting my Kenpo workout in shortly thereafter, but man, I am still just a little off. My sleep has been scattered and lacking for the last week or so and I have found myself needing a mid-day nap several times. Today was no exception. I passed out cold and just couldn’t seem to wake up. It was very bizarre. I finally pulled myself up and made some tea in hopes of getting my workout on. Finally at 9pm, I started my Kenpo. It was a struggle from the start. I just didn’t have the energy, but I pushed on. I got about 35 minutes in, but could feel my blood sugar dropping. I was getting dizzy and the lights in the room seemed to dim. Ok… I like to push myself, but this was the time to back off. I paused the DVD and ate a half of an orange. That stopped the shakiness, but I just didn’t have it in me to finish up. So, I accepted and appreciated my 35 minute workout and I called it. I hate doing that, but it was the smart thing to do. And also the reason I am sharing it is because this happens to the best of us and we just need to be smart and not get frustrated. I will get up tomorrow morning and hit it hard with my next workout and keep it rollin’.
Here’s a little inspiration to get you through the weekend…
For decades, breaking the four-minute mile was believed to be scientifically impossible. Right up until Roger Banister did it in 1954. Then you know what happened? 16 more people ran sub four-minutes in the three years to follow. Do I need to remind you that everything is impossible until someone does it?

Well, I missed yesterday. No way around that. I had a meeting, an audition, and a table read for a film I will be shooting in a few weeks, plus work. I started my day at 7:30am and wrapped up at about 11:30pm. Yoga was on for yesterday and there was no way I was going to fit in a 98 minute yoga practice. Today was more meetings and work. When I got home, my wife was shooting a fine art nude model here at our studio. Well… I guess it’s ok that I couldn’t workout yet. haha. To be honest, I am still feeling wiped from last weekend’s journey to Mexico. A crazy weekend right into a busy week. After the model left, I actually passed out for a much needed nap. But I pulled myself together and got to working out. Since I am on round 2, I am doing some variations and as much as I appreciate the yoga and such, I am anxious to hit the weights a little more and starting putting some muscle back on. So, I put yoga on the back burner and hit the legs, back, and abs. I had a good workout… not amazing, but solid. I definitely was sweating hard, burning calories, and swelling muscle. And I am glad I got it in, even thought it was late. We got some healthy food in preparation now, so I’m gonna get on with my night and will probably be eating for the next hour straight. lol.
I wish you all a beautiful evening and weekend. And here is some inspiration…

I honestly woke up today feeling a bit in a funk. These things happen sometimes… I’m sure I’m not alone in that one. I forced myself to get started even though I really had no motivation. After getting through a bit of work this morning, I launched into the big back and biceps workout. I forgot about the negative feelings I woke up with and focused on the task at hand. And it worked. I was burning the biceps hard today! My arms are swelled up right now. I fought through the pull-ups, but I was having a little trouble keeping up there. Maybe it’s because I was going so hard on my biceps that I was burned out for the back work. But either way, I pushed myself to the limit. I finished up with a strong ab routing mixing in both the Ab Ripper X moves along with some intense exercises of my own. I am feeling actually pretty good right now. And as I mentioned at the top… nothing lifts the spirits like a good workout. The physical activity brings me into presence, connects my mind with my body, and makes me feel great overall. Not to mention the endorphins that get released during the workout that just elevate my mood and give me a positive outlook on my day. My morning funk is no mo and I am ready to conquer the rest of my day.
This evening, my band Hollywood Roses is playing a very special private party for Angeleno Magazine. I expect a fabulous evening of fun, fashion, and of course rock n’ roll. Have a great day my friends and let this quote sink in on ya…
