This weekend was a busy one.  Yesterday we shot a wedding down in San Diego.  We drove in, worked all day and into the night, and then drove back.  I have been pushing my body hard lately with workouts and such, and after yesterday, I was done.  I woke up this morning feeling like a truck ran me over and felt quite out of it for most of the day.  But… there still remained much to do, so I had to pull it together.  I chose the X Stretch today.  That’s all I could do and probably the best thing for my body.  Especially since immediately upon completing this workout, I had to run out the door to band rehearsal which clocked in an additional 2 hours of moving and grooving.  Now I’m getting stuff done and getting ready for a big week ahead.  I hope you had a great weekend and I wish you a beautiful night.

I knocked out a solid cardio x workout this afternoon but then rolled right into a 3 hour meeting.  I immediately followed that by heading off to a 2 hour band rehearsal.  After finally wrapping up my day, I needed to get cleaned up and prepped for tomorrow.  I booked a featured part playing a Go-Go dancer in a gay nightclub on the new NBC sitcom, “The New Normal”.  Good thing I’ve been working out! 😉  This should be a fun and interesting day.  And I need to finish getting my stuff together and get to sleep.  Nite nite.

I woke up SORE this morning.  Wow… these last few workouts are giving the gift that keeps on giving.  My legs and back are STILL sore from my workout on Wednesday.  And Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps are of course as well from yesterday’s blast.  Add in 3 hours of drumming at band rehearsal last night and you can only imagine how I felt this morning.  However, we were hell bent on getting our cardio workout in.  Since Mary was joining me for today’s workout, we opted for the slightly easier Cardio X program.  I had originally put the Plyometrics DVD in.  Probably a good thing she requested Cardio X instead.

Today was one of those workouts where you just don’t  want to do it.  Well… you WANT to do it, but you really don’t want to do it.  Instead of finding an excuse, we just went for it.  During the stretch I could barely touch my toes.  Uh oh… haha.  Well, despite the fact that there wasn’t a lot of fuel in the tank, we powered through and still got a decent workout in.  And hey… that’s  ALWAYS better than nothing.

Now it’s time for a hot Saturday night of… laundry, dishes, cleaning, organizing, and getting ready for another big week.  Haha.  Well, I do have 2 gigs this week as well… so that’s kind of like working and partying all at the same time.  The best of both worlds.  Whatever you are doing, I wish you a beautiful evening.

I am jello right now.  I swear this workout does me in every time.  I can barely move my arms and I’m shaking.  Haha… yes in this case that is a good thing.

Over these past few weeks I have been working out on an every other day schedule with a focus on the weight training workouts.  It has been effective for me as we have been busier these last 3 weeks than we have been all year.  Also, I have been focusing on more weight training than cardio because I had lost a few pounds early on and I wanted to add a few back of the muscle variety.  I have seen some nice gains in recent weeks.  I will start adding more cardio back in now as well as yoga and stretch.  I don’t wanna lose sight of those even with a busy schedule.

Now that I’ve burned myself out, I need to recharge as I have a 3 hour band rehearsal tonight with Hollywood Roses.  I hope my arms will work so can slam dem drums. haha.

This was the perfect workout for today as it’s been a long week and we have a busy weekend ahead.  I had another band rehearsal this evening with DropDead L.A.  Btw… we’re playing a big show this coming Monday at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip.  It’s a free show… come on down.  🙂

I didn’t have time to workout this morning, so after I got home from rehearsal, I quickly made the decision to do the X Stretch.  I really connected with my body tonight.  I could feel my muscle fibers stretching one by one and really was able to settle deep into my breath and open up my flexibility.  I also fell into some additional organic stretches that felt just right.  All in all, a great workout and I really feel good right now.  And… I actually still have more work to do tonight before bed.  So… I bid you goodnight.

Busy day today so I’m gonna keep this short.  I took a lunch break and filled it with working out.  🙂   I rather eat at my desk while working anyway… especially considering I eat every hour or so.  lol.

Yesterday was another long day and I was super sore from Monday’s leg workout.  In fact, my legs are still sore today.  So I rested it yesterday and hit the chest, triceps, and shoulders workout hard today.  This one is still a beast.  But I love it.  Feelin’ pumped now.  I did abs, but switched it up a bit.  I learned a few new standing ab exercises yesterday, so I added those in at the top and did a few other moves as well.  I wrapped up quickly, made my protein shake, and got back to it.  Plus, tonight I have a 3 hour band rehearsal with DropDead LA as we are playing a big show this coming Monday at the Roxy!  Nothin’ like a 3 hour cardio workout playing drums!

We spent some time relaxing today.  For the first time since living in our building, we actually went down and laid out by the pool.  The sun felt good today… got some much needed Vitamin D.  Then it was time to get in my cardio workout.  Plyometrics was on the calendar for today, but I chose to do Cardio X instead to switch it up a bit.  Also, I missed yoga this week and didn’t have a great Kenpo workout, so this program was great because it incorporates yoga, kenpo, plyo, and core.  It’s also a slightly shorter workout and that was welcomed today.  I got good a sweat going and definitely burned some calories.  Now it’s time to run off to band rehearsal with DropDead L.A.  I think playing drums for 2 hours will be a nice finish to my fitness routine today. Well, I didn’t just finish my workout, but I did have to flip-flop my day a bit today. I got my workout in this evening and then had to immediately head to a late night band rehearsal as we have a show tomorrow night.  More on that later.

The important thing is that I still managed to fit in this powerhouse of a workout.  I like this one because there is a lot of focus on the biceps.  That is one of the muscles I would like to improve the most.  And this workout hits it hard.  I felt strong today and was able to push myself hard on both the back and biceps exercises.  Finished up with some abs and then it was off to play drums for an hour as we ran through our set for tomorrow night.

That was a tough one today.

I just wrapped the ‘off-week’ and today it was back to the weights.  Yesterday was supposed to be the final X Stretch in the off-week, but I had a day full of meetings and then an evening band rehearsal.  By the time I got home last night it was 11pm and I was done.  So, I made that stretch day a rest day instead.  Then again, playing drums for 2 hours ain’t exactly resting. lol.

I do appreciate the off-week in this program, however, even after just a week with no weights, it always seems hard on the first day back in.  Today was no exception.  I had to get up early today and head down to Hollywood for an audition.  I got home and had things to do and then found myself needing a nap.  It was a busy week with not a lot of sleep and it just kinda caught up to me.  Today my morning workout ended up being an evening workout instead.  I used to prefer the late afternoon/early evening workouts.  Now that I have gotten on a morning schedule, I kind of dread them.  I had a hard time starting today.  And even after I did, I just wasn’t feeling it at the beginning.  I guess I was being resistant for some reason.  About 15 minutes in, I started feeling a bit shaky.  So I ate a half of a banana mid-workout.  That helped as I think my blood sugar was low.  So far this story sounds pretty grim, huh?  Haha… well, there is a reason that I am sharing this.  And that is because it was my reality tonight.  And there is no benefit for me to sugar coat that here.  This blog is meant to inspire, and the fact is, that everyone has days like this.  Days where it just seems hard or you just don’t feel like working out.  I have those days too and I share that so you will see you are not alone.  And know that when you DO have a day where you just can’t motivate, you just need to go for it.  And it may be hard and it may not be your best workout.  Sometimes, you may find that you have an amazing workout once you get going.  Either way, if you can just power through it, you will feel incredible afterwards.  And that my friends, is what will separate you from the crowd.  Mental fatigue can be a very persuasive thing, but physically, you can beat it.  And the best gains and results come from pushing yourself when you just don’t want to do it.  Keep rocking it and keep pushing yourself.  You will thank yourself in the end, as I am thanking myself now.  I didn’t have the strength and stamina that I have had during previous workouts, but I still pushed myself to failure every time tonight.  I kept pushing myself until I had nothing left.  And now, I am totally worked out.  But I feel great physically and I also feel more positive mentally.  That is the beauty of working out.  And I bet that I wake up sore as hell tomorrow.

It was a great week… very busy and lot’s of good things in the works.  I got right to work this morning and went right up until I had to leave for band rehearsal.  A nice 2 hours of drumming got the calories burning.  My band DropDead L.A. also finished writing another new tune tonight.  Btw… we’ll be playing next on May 15th at Boardners in Hollywood.

I got home from rehearsal, fueled up with a Larabar, and then decided to zen out and do my X Stretch class.  It was a nice workout and I added a few stretches of my own at the end plus did a little meditation.  The perfect way to wind down the week.  Even tho there is plenty of work to do this weekend.  I’m feeling nice and loose now.  Gonna unwind and relax until a pass out. lol.

Tomorrow starts week 4 which is the off week consisting of yoga, core, stretching, kenpo, etc.  I will probably alternate the workouts a little this time around.  For example, tomorrow is yoga, but I just finished stretching, so I will probably do the Core Synergistics instead.  You know I’ll keep you posted either way. 🙂
