P90X – Round 2, Day 73!

Back from another big show weekend out of town… and back at it!

P90X – Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
P90X – Ab Ripper X
Total Time = 77 Minutes

It was a great weekend down in Palm Springs.  We played to a huge and crazy crowd out in the Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio.  It was a HOT one down there.  We sound checked in 110 degree temps out in the sun… that was brutal. lol.

Showtime was hot and a bit humid for that part of the world.  We had to dig in for over 90 minutes straight of intense playing.  I gotta say, my stamina is good.  I felt solid throughout… I was even called upon to do an impromptu drum solo.  We rocked the house and by the end I was sweating from head to toe.  And it was all worth it!

We got back to L.A. yesterday and I actually had to do work until about 3am editing a reel for an actor client.  Back to work this morning as well and finally took a break a bit ago and got back to the weights.  It was a little hard getting into it at first as I am a bit run down from the weekend.  But I kept pushing and dug in.  I worked it hard until I could barely move my arms and then powered through Ab Ripper X.  Right now I am feeling it.  And it feels good.  🙂  No time to rest though… gotta throw in laundry and get back to editing the music video that I have been working on for the last week.

I hope you all had a great weekend as well and I wish you a beautiful week ahead!

P90X – Round 2, Day 45!

Day 45?!  I guess that means I just passed the halfway point of Round 2!

P90X – Cardio X
Total Time = 49 Minutes

I’m feeling great today!  Keeping my shortened off-week going with some Cardio X.  It’s actually not even one of the off-week workouts, but since I am shortening this week of kenpo, yoga, and core, Cardio X was a fitting workout since it combines all of those together!

I had good energy this morning.  My stamina is improving as I felt very on top of this workout.  When it was over… I was ready for more!  Ahhh… results.  🙂  I think I will get back to the next round of weights tomorrow.  I’m amped up!

We have a busy day ahead as we are shooting the red carpet and interviews at a film festival today called Film Festival Flix at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood.  If you would like to attend with us, here is the info:  http://www.facebook.com/FilmFestivalFlix?sk=app_213898535383329&app_data=sp216818

I wish you all a beautiful day!

P90X – Round 2, Day 45!

P90X – Round 2, Day 42!

Bringin’ it hard again today!

P90X – Kenpo X
Total Time = 64 Minutes

My last Kenpo workout was not so good.  If you read my blog on that day, you would know that I wasn’t feeling too well and had to cut it short.  Well today was a whole different story!  My legs were definitely sore this morning from yesterday’s big leg workout.  But I got em moving and started stretching right into Kenpo X.  I had good stamina and flexibility today.  I was kicking higher, punching faster, and overall going more intensely then the video was instructing.  I even busted out some jump kicks and stuff that I used to do and it felt pretty awesome.  I worked up a good sweat today and I am feeling great. 🙂

It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I’m gonna keep it going.  Hope y’all are having a great weekend so far.  Dig this…

P90X – Round 2, Day 27!

Welcome back Plyo!

P90X – Plyometrics
Total Time = 64 Minutes

Up and at ’em on a beautiful Sunday morning and kicked into Plyo.  I actually have not done the plyo workout in almost 2 months.  If you’ve been following along, the last time I did Plyo, I tweaked my back a little.  Therefore, I have been swapping out the Plyo workouts with Cardio X… also a very good workout.  Well today, I felt it was time to give Plyometrics a try again.  And I am glad I did!  It was a fantastic and intense cardio workout to start out the day.  I was very conscious of my form today and kept my core nice and tight to support my back.  I also modified a couple of the moves where I know the impact on my back was a little much.  I had great stamina and was able to keep up and finish strong.  I am feeling fantastic right now, but have to run as we have a photo shoot client on the way to shoot headshots.

Before I go, 2 things…

1.  A little inspiration…
Never make excuses. Always wake up with a smile knowing that today you are going to have fun accomplishing what others are too afraid to do.

2.  Just like Earth Day, Mother’s Day should be EVERY DAY! To all the mothers and mothers-to-be, Happy Mother’s Day wishes from me! I send you love, light, peace, and eternal happiness… today and everyday. ♥ Justin

Workout Day 90!

Yes that is correct.  I just completed 90 out of 90 workouts in the P90X program!

P90X – Core Synergistics
Total Time = 63 Minutes

What a way to finish strong!  This workout kicks ass and I’m glad I adjusted my schedule so that I would end on a Core day.  I was sweating so much today that I needed a separate towel to keep wiping down the floor so I wouldn’t slip.  What does that tell you about a full body intense workout?!  I feel amazing right now.  And I feel a great sense of accomplishment as I stuck strong to this program.  With my crazy life and work schedule, it still only took me 102 days to complete the program.  And of those 12 extra days, I did about 4 other workouts such as nature hikes and a gym workout.  Therefore, in 102 days, I only actually took 8 days off to rest! And 2 of those days were due to slight injury.  How’s THAT for commitment?!

I have truly enjoyed this program.  It was more intense than the standard gym workouts I was used to and it was very convenient to do at home, saving me time and gas money.  I feel that I have made great gains in my stamina, flexibility, core strength, and overall body composition.  I have definitely leaned out and I am getting much closer to my overall physical appearance goals.  It was definitely an interesting challenge as I switched to an all-plant based diet the day I began this program.  So the adjustment to that along with the learning curve on how to eat and supplement properly has been an equal part of my growth and experience.  I feel that I truly understand my diet and my body much more now and I think this is only the beginning of where my health and body is heading.

I have also truly enjoyed blogging my daily workouts.  This is something that I have never done before.  I think it is great though.  It keeps me accountable to stay on track.  It also shows everyone out there that you need to stay committed and keep bringing it hard every day.  There is no easy way to fitness.  It is a good diet, a positive attitude, and a lot of continuous hard work.  I have chosen to make my health and fitness life public in hopes of inspiring others to live healthier and happier lives.  And just because I completed my first P90X program, it doesn’t mean that I will just stop blogging.  Oh no… you ain’t getting off THAT easy! lol.  I am going to continue posting daily.  I am going to share even more recipes and fitness tips and will keep passing on good information as I learn more myself.  And I am totally open to YOUR involvement.  Please send me your questions, comments, ideas, etc.  We are all in this together!

So what’s next for me?!  I honestly don’t know yet! haha.  I will be working out again tomorrow morning, that is for sure.  Will I go to the gym?  Will I start P90X all over again from the beginning?  Will I try P90X2 or Insanity?  Or maybe a mashup?  We’ll see.  But I am excited to continue on my journey.  I will definitely have to do the fit test again as well as some more photos so I can show you some of my results.

But before anything else, I need to get ready to play a gig tonight!  I am playing drums with the band DropDead L.A. at the Viper Room tonight.  If you’re in the L.A. area, come on down and hang.  We play at 10pm and we have a $5 guest list.  Just join our event page on facebook and add your name and guests to the wall BEFORE 5pm today! https://www.facebook.com/events/245823375513885/

Ok… long blog, but I had lots to share.  I need to go eat!  And get back to work and then get ready to rock.  Thank you for continuing to read my posts and stay tuned for lots more.  Have an amazing day my friends!  🙂

Workout Day 41!

P90X – Kenpo X
Total Time = 64 Minutes

That was fun!  I feel amazing.  My stamina has improved so much since starting P90X that I was ready for more when this workout ended.  That is a great feeling because I am seeing the results of the hard work.  The first time I did Kenpo I was winded.  Today I could have probably done it 2 times in a row.  And to those who may feel frustrated with your workouts, remember… it takes time, persistence, and most of all hard work.  But you will see that the hard work truly does pay off.  I can’t wait to get back into real kickboxing again and start hitting the pads!  Have a great day friends!

Workout Day 34!

Rocked it!

P90X – Kenpo X
Total Time = 64 Minutes

We started our Kenpo workout earlier today and 4 minutes in… the power in our building went out! 😮  Oh no… we had to stop which really through us off because after a while the power was still not on and hunger kicked in.  So we ate and got other work done and then the power came back on, but we were already busy so we just finished up.  We finally got to our workout a little bit ago and it was every bit as good!  I noticed today that my stamina was stronger.  I was able to complete all of the moves without extra breaks or pauses.  And my heart rate was going strong but I was not out of breath.  My only challenge today was that 2 days ago we did Yoga X and yesterday was legs.  My legs were sore from yoga and then after a killer leg workout yesterday, I was hurting this morning… especially in my hamstrings and glutes.  So although my stamina  was strong, I was a bit limited in my range of motion and height of my kicks due to my muscles just being so tight.  I did take an extra 15 minutes after the workout to stretch out a bit more and I am feeling excellent right now.  Tomorrow is stretch day and I am welcoming that with open arms.  Every muscle on my body is T O A S T!  The true sign of a hard earned week of physical exercise.  I am geared up for an evening of creativity and I wish you all a beautiful night as well.

Workout Day 9!

Yeah! I feel insane right now!

P90X – Plyometrics
Total Time = 64 Minutes

This workout is intense… but I love it.  I was talking to my friend Gregg earlier this morning and he is in possesion of P90X but has yet to commit to doing it.  Knowing that I’ve been a long-time gym rat, he asked me how I liked it and how I felt doing these exercises as compared to the gym.  I told him that I have never worked out harder, felt stronger, or have stayed more committed than I am by doing this program.  I can already see and feel a difference.  That’s something I haven’t felt in a long time after reaching plateaus with my gym workouts.  I told Gregg that I was getting ready to do the Plyometrics workout and that it was an intense workout based on the principals of jumping.  He mentioned that his last trainer used to make him do burpees and how much he hated those.  I told him that after doing Plyometrics, he is going to wish for the days of burpees back.  This workout brings it hard!

So we jumped right in today.  It was a little hard at first for me.  I felt like I was 500lbs trying to jump.  Haha.  But I locked in and worked through the heavy feeling and the pain.  I felt a great burn and also felt a nice increase in my stamina from the last time.  I was able to go a little further and was able to push myself a little harder.  This workout is awesome.  And I love that he incorporates exercises that mimic baseball, football, and basketball at the end.  When I’m just about out of steam, those sports-like movements add an element of fun that helps me get over the edge and finish strong.  I feel great and my wife and I are ready to have a nice healthy lunch and tackle a productive Saturday.

Have a beautiful day!!
