Juice Cleanse! Day 5!

FOOD DAY! 🙂  Yep, days 5-7 are food days and boy was today awesome. I proudly made it through 4 straight days of nothing but green juices and today was like a special treat. On the food days, we start with a juice and then eat clean veggies and proteins all day, but no sugars, fruits, or starchy carbs.

Juice 1-11

This turned into our morning juice. It was an improvised recipe including: kale, chard, parsley, cucumber, celery, dandelion root, and lemon.

After this juice I had a little raw almond butter and than a plant based protein shake. I had more strength today, so I did the P90X Back and Biceps with Ab Ripper X workout. After my workout, I continued my eating orgy with another protein shake and an oatmeal blend. As the day went on I added tempeh, cucumbers, and broccoli. Of course, lots of alkaline water and water with chia seeds, etc.

Mary and I had the pleasure of seeing a special screening of “Silver Linings Playbook” this evening which was followed by a Q&A of the entire cast! On the way home we stopped at the Sun Cafe for some delicious organic raw food. I have noticed that my taste buds have never been more alive. Everything is so delicious and I feel great putting this optimum fuel into my body. I have also learned that eating less at a time is so much better for me. So instead of eating everything we ordered tonight, we ate until we were satisfied but not full and brought the rest home. My digestive system is so much happier… no bloating or discomfort like I have gotten in the past when eating a big meal. As a matter of fact, I am already hungry again, so I’m going to go eat more! Yay! 2 more days of this and then back to juice. Before I go… my thought for the day…

Juice Cleanse! Day 4!

Holy smokes… is it Day 4 already?! STILL going strong! To be honest, I didn’t feel so great this morning. I felt groggy and quite hungry. It was hard to get moving and get my day on. But I pulled through. After my morning juice, I took a spoonful of coconut oil and then did the P90X – X Stretch. That proved to be a good idea as my body just needed to be stretched out and loosened up. I finished it off with some nice breathing and meditation and was then focused and ready to go. I ended up having a great day today. Lot’s of good business things are going on and as the day went on I felt better and better. I am drinking my 4th juice of the day right now. I also drank plenty of alkaline water today, including a bottle of water with chia seeds. I’ll have some good decaf green tea in a bit and that should be good til morning.

We juiced the last of our supply this afternoon, so I went out and picked up a lot more great organic juicing veggies. I got all of the same stuff I mentioned yesterday and added Bok Choy and Dandelion root as well. I also picked up FOOD! Yep… tomorrow is eating day 1 of 3! I haven’t been this excited about food in a while. lol. I will be able to eat all I want as long as it is clean proteins and veggies and a little bit of fat. Basically I will be eating very alkaline foods and nothing processed. This is the way I will mostly be eating once this cleanse is done, so this is good training. I will post tomorrow about the foods I ate and the experience of actually eating after 4 days of nothing but juice. Until then… have a fantastic night!

This weekend was a busy one.  Yesterday we shot a wedding down in San Diego.  We drove in, worked all day and into the night, and then drove back.  I have been pushing my body hard lately with workouts and such, and after yesterday, I was done.  I woke up this morning feeling like a truck ran me over and felt quite out of it for most of the day.  But… there still remained much to do, so I had to pull it together.  I chose the X Stretch today.  That’s all I could do and probably the best thing for my body.  Especially since immediately upon completing this workout, I had to run out the door to band rehearsal which clocked in an additional 2 hours of moving and grooving.  Now I’m getting stuff done and getting ready for a big week ahead.  I hope you had a great weekend and I wish you a beautiful night.

As promised, I moved my ab ripper x workout to today.  I warmed up for a few minutes and then kicked off with abs.  It’s great doing abs first.  Doing them with full energy allows a better ab workout and getting them done and out of the way is also a nice relief. 🙂

I then jumped into the X Stretch, a workout I have not done in a while.  Today I needed it as I have been pushing my body hard with weights workouts lately.  So, a good ab workout mixed with a nice hour of stretching was the perfect program for this hot Sunday afternoon.

This also frees me up for a busy and productive night ahead of editing text for our book and editing video for 2 projects in the works.  Nothing like another productive weekend.  Hope you had a great weekend as well and are ready to kick off another big week!

This was the perfect workout for today as it’s been a long week and we have a busy weekend ahead.  I had another band rehearsal this evening with DropDead L.A.  Btw… we’re playing a big show this coming Monday at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip.  It’s a free show… come on down.  🙂

I didn’t have time to workout this morning, so after I got home from rehearsal, I quickly made the decision to do the X Stretch.  I really connected with my body tonight.  I could feel my muscle fibers stretching one by one and really was able to settle deep into my breath and open up my flexibility.  I also fell into some additional organic stretches that felt just right.  All in all, a great workout and I really feel good right now.  And… I actually still have more work to do tonight before bed.  So… I bid you goodnight.

It’s day 2 of what will be a shortened ‘off-week’.  Yesterday’s Core Synergistics kicked my butt!  I was sore and stiff all day today.  I also had a lot of work to do and pretty much worked from the minute I got up until about an hour ago.  As I am picking and choosing the workouts of this week, I felt that a nice X Stretch was in order.  And boy was I right.  I went through it and my muscles opened up more and more with each minute.  My body relaxed deep into the stretches as I incorporated a more yoga style of breathing.  It felt damn good.  When I finished, I did a few more stretches and followed it with meditation and ohms.  I now feel flexible, relaxed, and centered.  Perfect.  🙂  Have a beautiful evening.

It always feels good to do a nice stretch as the sun is setting.  There is something very peaceful about it.  As the day transitions into night, I absorb the energy into my body as I connect with my muscles, joints, tendons, and bones and allow them to do what they are supposed to do.  I always feel invigorated after a good stretch and today is no exception.  I have not been stretching as much over the last 2 weeks and I could feel that today.  My body was tight, so I went with a more ease-in approach and went with the flow.  I feel very loose right now and am reminded of the importance of getting more stretching and yoga work into my weekly routine.  I hope you all had a fantastic day and wow, it’s already Friday again.  It feels like summer is here… hot day today and a beautiful evening breeze blowing in from the windows now.  Have a great night friends.  And here’s a little love…

A day off, a gig, a switcharoo, but here I am…

Yesterday was a busy day that wrapped with my gig last night.  Yoga was on the schedule, but there was no time to squeeze in a 98 minute workout.  So, I did about 20 minutes of stretching on my own and then got ready for my show.  The show, btw, was awesome.  We had a blast and a great gig, but I didn’t get to bed until after 3am.  This morning I thought I would get up and do yoga, but things changed!  I gotta be honest, I was real sore this morning and was wondering how I would get through yoga anyway.  But, the news was… my band Hollywood Roses booked a last minute show for this coming Saturday in Tijuana, Mexico!  So, this morning I had to run out and and get my passport renewed on a rush order.  All went well there, and we are set to play a big show on Saturday night.

So, the day went on, but I still wanted to do a workout.  I was still feeling the soreness and decided to switch out yoga with the X Stretch.  I definitely needed to loosen up my muscles and this was the right call.  I had a nice stretch and my body is definitely thanking me for it now.  I’m watching the sun set out the window and looking forward to a nice evening.  I have lot’s of meetings and business over the next 2 days and then we leave for Mexico at the crack of dawn on Saturday.  But I will get my workouts in over the next 2 days!  This weekend is still unknown. lol.

That was a tough one today.

I just wrapped the ‘off-week’ and today it was back to the weights.  Yesterday was supposed to be the final X Stretch in the off-week, but I had a day full of meetings and then an evening band rehearsal.  By the time I got home last night it was 11pm and I was done.  So, I made that stretch day a rest day instead.  Then again, playing drums for 2 hours ain’t exactly resting. lol.

I do appreciate the off-week in this program, however, even after just a week with no weights, it always seems hard on the first day back in.  Today was no exception.  I had to get up early today and head down to Hollywood for an audition.  I got home and had things to do and then found myself needing a nap.  It was a busy week with not a lot of sleep and it just kinda caught up to me.  Today my morning workout ended up being an evening workout instead.  I used to prefer the late afternoon/early evening workouts.  Now that I have gotten on a morning schedule, I kind of dread them.  I had a hard time starting today.  And even after I did, I just wasn’t feeling it at the beginning.  I guess I was being resistant for some reason.  About 15 minutes in, I started feeling a bit shaky.  So I ate a half of a banana mid-workout.  That helped as I think my blood sugar was low.  So far this story sounds pretty grim, huh?  Haha… well, there is a reason that I am sharing this.  And that is because it was my reality tonight.  And there is no benefit for me to sugar coat that here.  This blog is meant to inspire, and the fact is, that everyone has days like this.  Days where it just seems hard or you just don’t feel like working out.  I have those days too and I share that so you will see you are not alone.  And know that when you DO have a day where you just can’t motivate, you just need to go for it.  And it may be hard and it may not be your best workout.  Sometimes, you may find that you have an amazing workout once you get going.  Either way, if you can just power through it, you will feel incredible afterwards.  And that my friends, is what will separate you from the crowd.  Mental fatigue can be a very persuasive thing, but physically, you can beat it.  And the best gains and results come from pushing yourself when you just don’t want to do it.  Keep rocking it and keep pushing yourself.  You will thank yourself in the end, as I am thanking myself now.  I didn’t have the strength and stamina that I have had during previous workouts, but I still pushed myself to failure every time tonight.  I kept pushing myself until I had nothing left.  And now, I am totally worked out.  But I feel great physically and I also feel more positive mentally.  That is the beauty of working out.  And I bet that I wake up sore as hell tomorrow.

P90X – Round 2, Day 21!

Ahhhhhhhhh… wrapped up a beautiful weekend with…

P90X  –  X Stretch

This weekend was filled with work, seeing friends, and inspiration.  It was actually pretty amazing.  I wrapped it up with today’s workout… the X Stretch.  The perfect way to close it out.  However, I did it with some yoga influence.  I started by playing our Tibetan Singing Bowl, tuning into the vibration and sound and centering myself.  I then started the DVD, but turned the music off only leaving his voice on and played my own CD instead containing very yoga sounding instrumental music.  Throughout the stretch,  I incorporated more zen and meditation along with deeper breathing.  My flexibility was good… and getting better with each workout.  At the end I added a few stretches and then finished up with a nice meditation.

Having a little food now and then it’s off to bed to get ready for another big, busy week.  Before I go, a little inspiration…
